Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Beatrice Luigi Gomez threw in her support for Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan as she appeared on stage at the rally in Pasay on Saturday, April 23 in celebration of Leni’s birthday.
Bea, along with Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa were among the celebrities who participated in the rally that saw an estimation of 412,000 people.
In an Instagram post, Bea explained why she is supporting Leni in the May 9 elections.
“First time ko nameet si VP Leni sa inauguration ng Camp Jesse Robredo sa Consolacion, Cebu in 2016. I truly admire her leadership and her gentle strength as a woman and a mother,” Bea said.
“To do social work takes a pure heart and a brave soul. Having experienced it myself, I know how hard it is to immerse yourself in the harsh reality of life and actually do something about it. She was one of the first to respond when typhoon Odette hit my hometown, Cebu.”
On December 16, Cebu along with parts of Visayas and Mindanao experienced one of the worst floods in history after Odette, destroying crops and homes, and leaving thousands of families homeless. The Office of the Vice President was one of the first groups to respond to the call, sending food and basic needs such as water.
Bea said that Leni’s experiences as a lawyer, community worker, and public servant also saw the sectors that need prioritization.
“As a legislator she empowered the Filipino people by promoting participatory governance and transparency meaning tayong lahat kabilang ang mga nasa marginalized sector to actually have a part sa pamamahala ng ating bansa,” she said.
The Cebuana beauty queen also said that Leni lived up to the example of her late husband Jesse Robredo, who served “simply, truthfully and honestly.”
“I wish that she remains steadfast sa kanyang paniniwala and may she have the best chances of winning not just now, but always,” she said.
Bea joined other titleholders such as Kylie, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, Miss International 2005 Lara Quigaman, and Miss International 1970 Aurora Pijuan who have expressed their support for the Leni-Kiko tandem.
