Miss Philippines Earth Virtual Pageant Concerns

Weeks had passed since the Miss Philippines Earth virtual pageant idea floated around pageant social media circles and pageant enthusiasts and bloggers alike, have wondered how it will transpire.

For one, issues on internet connection will be a huge risk for the pageant. You wouldn’t want someone to be cut off in the middle of the competition.

Second, the lack of activities makes it somehow difficult to pre-judge the girls. Sources say that the contestants were asked to take a video of themselves in swimsuit, eco-costume and evening gown (in their homes).

And of course, there are girls who are from places which don’t have advanced internet, yet. There are girls who are currently stranded in their provinces or in Manila, who heavily rely on their teams for the competition. An example of this is a candidate from Visayas who was stranded in Manila need her costumes, swimsuit and gown for the videos to be submitted to Miss Philippines Earth virtual pageant within this week.

Miss Philippines Earth 2020 virtual pageant: Implications

So, what are the implications of the Miss Philippines Earth 2020 virtual pageant? For one, it sets a precedence for all local (and even international) pageants to be held virtually, too.

Another implication is that if a pageant can be done virtually, there lie untapped platforms which can be explored in the future.

It can also mean that standards of beauty can be expressed not only personally, but a “winner” can be crowned even with just being themselves, at home. This puts premium on personality and intellect. And preparedness is key.

Miss Philippines Earth 2020 virtual pageant: Frontrunners?

Since we haven’t covered them on site, we rely on familiar faces and standouts. This year’s cropped, though not a lot, is still a competitive batch, overall.

Pageant veteran Mary Anne Sherry Tormes (Atimonan, Quezon) is definitely giving us Angelee Claudette delos Reyes vibes. What she needs is to stay ready, but keep herself relaxed so she can perform well at the pageant. When we interviewed her last week, Shane Tormes seems to be very passionate about her cause and if she wins, we’ll have someone who can really express herself whichever platform is provided to her, albeit, virtual.

Another pageant veteran who can definitely give Shane a run for her money is Patrixia Santos (Daraga, Albay). Talk about prepared, this girl is definitely someone who has what it takes to be this year’s winner. A pretty face and a confident stance – Patrixia might slay her competition away if she plays smart come Miss Philippines Earth virtual pageant.

Someone they should worry about though is experienced Gianna Llanes (Mandaluyong City). Gianna’s extensive on-screen experience have become her superpower as she’s at ease in every interview she’s subjected to. If she makes the Top 10, it is expected she’ll get an elemental crown. Eloquent, elegant with excellent background, Gianna has all the ammunition she can use in order to win the top plum.

Another face we have seen in the past is Justiene Ortega (City of Manila), who showed her prowess in Miss World Philippines last year, is also a stunner. Her background in marketing also makes her someone Miss Philippines Earth would want especially in these trying times.

Fresh candidates Roxanne Baeyens from Baguio City, Shannen Man from Fil-Florida, USA, Rosene Bernardo from General Santos City and Japheth Lasco from Vicenzo Sagun, Zamboanga Del Sur, are also some girls we need to watch out for.

Another beauty, engineer Mae Angeline Santos, might also be the one to beat with her technical background and a wide perspective of environmental concerns.

Miss Philippines Earth 2020 virtual pageant will be held on May 24, 2020, Sunday and will be telecast via ABS-CBN and live on Miss Philippines Earth social media pages.
